How to Remove Written-Off & Settled Status from CIBIL Report

The Hidden Danger of "Settled" Status

When borrowers face financial distress, bank recovery agents often offer a "One-Time Settlement" (OTS). While this halts recovery calls, the bank reports the loan as "Settled" to CIBIL.

To an underwriter, a "Settled" remark indicates that the borrower failed to fulfill their contractual obligation and caused a financial loss to the lender. This remark stays on your CIBIL record for up to 7 years, blocking virtually all fresh credit.

How to Convert "Settled" into "Closed"

  1. Contact the Nodal Officer: Request the exact waiver differential amount previously discounted during settlement.
  2. Pay the Balance Outstanding: Remit the waiver amount directly to the bank via demand draft or RTGS.
  3. Secure a Formal NOC: Obtain a No Objection Certificate and Closure Certificate with zero liability confirmation.
  4. Bureau Data Resubmission: Ensure the bank transmits updated tape records to CIBIL, changing the status from "Settled" to "Closed / Zero Balance".
